I’m a sensitive being. In a reflection of my life, I can say with certainty that I have consistently played the good girl role. It’s served me well and I get on well in society that way, so why not?
This good girl role has prevented me from identifying with my true self; the sensitive, wild and untamed me. My ability to strongly feel is what will make me a good practitioner, but I’ve imprisoned that feeling in fear of being unstable. I’ve learned I must nurture and hold this precious girl in complete love and acceptance because she is truth. Sa Ta Na Ma.
Breathwork is all about the death of the ego, and in a documentary on Samadhi, it was said ‘To realize Samadhi is to learn to die before you die’. One of my teachers always says to die in the breath. Breathwork allows you to directly experience the truth of who you are.
“The ego construct is nothing more than the tendency to repeat the path energy once took, and the desire to take that path again.” - Samadhi: Maya, the Illusion of the Self
When you can look at circumstance and not identify with it, you enjoy life more fully. The goal isn’t to remove the mind, but to unidentify from it in order to have fuller experiences. The Hindu call this Lila: divine play; to enjoy life as it is, without anxiousness or fear.
We have fight or flight response and to rewire our code to unidentify with fear takes some work. Resistance occurs and may look like cancelling an appointment, filling our days with work or being martyrs to family circumstances. In breathwork, resistance is a direct battle with the death of the ego.
There is always that opportunity to breathe through the resistance, to move into the play of Lila, and to discover the true self that longs for nurturing and love and protection. Do you know how truly special you are?
